The acoustic intro to this song is played in Drop C. The electric part is played with a baritone guitar tuned GDGCFA. Picture the bottom 5 strings of a D-standard guitar with a low 'drop' 7th string. Or, you can picture Drop G with the 'E' string tuned up a step. This made the shapes with the upper extensions for the choruses much easier to grab while singing.
Like in Trinec, there are a mandolin and a piano playing during the intro and those are not transcribed or showed in the video.
This song is by far the most complicated with time on the record. The opening is in 7, the chorus is a phrase that 6-7-6-8 and the verses are in 4. The outro goes back to 7, and in fact, the bass line is the same rhythm as in the intro, just played loud and with a dissonant flat 2 (8th?). The goal was to make this mess of rhythms approachable and we've had good luck with the song live. People seem to really dig it and never bring up the odd time.
The main distorted sound is a combination of a Boger Harlow compressor into a Chase Bliss Brothers into two Fender Twin Reverb '65 re-issues. This song heavily uses an Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine for both its self-oscillation and a de-tuned slapback sound.
The acoustic is a Gibson J-15. The EGC on the record is a 30" scale baritone loaded with their humbuckers. I'm not sure if they are the Scott Kelly signature pickups or just normal EGC ones, but they run pretty hot.
