Nevada authorities say events have been peaceful at internet-inspired gatherings around Area 51, the once-secret military installation about a two-hour drive from Las Vegas.
Events are taking place this weekend in tiny Nevada towns after an internet hoax posted this summer invited people to "storm" Area 51, the focus of popular lore about government studies of extraterrestrial life and space aliens.
At least two people were detained for public urination and another for briefly ducking under a gate at the military site.
But over all, law enforcement says the gatherings have been peaceful so far.
The online prank morphed into two separate alien-themed festivals now underway, a concert in the town of Rachel called "Alienstock" and an alien cultural event dubbed "Area 51 Basecamp" in the town of Hiko.
Thousands of visitors are expected to attend both events, temporarily doubling the size of the local population.
The Lincoln County Sheriff says he's pleased at how things have gone so far but said his department and other law enforcement plan on remaining vigilant in the area through Sunday
