We grow many plants in our garden, and two of them are ready right now to sow for flowers next year.
In this video we are sowing the seeds of Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata 'Black Barlow' and Digitalis 'Camelot Lavender' (Not Lilac as stated in the video!).
Digitalis 'Camelot Lavender' like all of the Camelot series are F1 hybrids. An F1 hybrid has the same true-bred parents making each one identical. The seed collected from the F1 plant in the garden will be F2 (or second generation) seed. The plants therefore grown from the F2 seed will have some variability as they have been created from different parents from the F1 hybrid. We thought we would give it a go and see what we get. The Camelot foxgloves are also marketed as perennials so we will also see if they survive next year.
