Australia Increases Visa Fees for International Students
The Australian government has announced a significant increase in visa fees for international students, more than doubling the cost from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600 ($1,068). This change, effective from July 1, aims to control immigration levels and alleviate pressure on the housing market. Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil stated that the new fees will help restore the integrity of the international education system and create a fairer migration system. With net migration reaching a record 548,800 people in the year ending September 30, 2023, these measures also include stricter English language requirements and increased savings thresholds for visa qualification.
