Curatorial statement:
This interlude shows us the daily activities that people enjoy in Riding Mountain National Park like canoeing, frog hunting and horseback riding. Set to Alain Clavier’s iconic score and utilizing experimental techniques, this typical Public Service Announcement is elevated to a piece of art.

Television spots or ‘Interludes’ were commissioned by Parks Canada and produced by the National Film Board in the 1980s. These atmospheric short films, each of which showcased a different National Park of Historic Site, are distinguished by the way they combine beautiful images with an eerie electronic score composed by Québécois electronic musician Alain Clavier (1929-1998).
By the early 1990s, the Interludes had vanished from television, consigned to the archives of the National Film Board. Despite their disappearance from television, the interludes were stuck in Canada's cultural subconsciousness. By 2010 lo-fi dubs were beginning to appear on YouTube, uploaded by Alain Clavier mega-fans from ancient VHS tapes. And now, in 2021 the full series has been lovingly restored to its original splendor from the 16mm negatives.
