Super excited to finally share a quick camera test I shot on the new iPhone 15 Pro. As you might already know, you can now shoot in 4K ProRes Log! This is a big deal because shooting log will allow you much more flexibility in color grading and it's something that typically only cinema cameras could do. I've been shooting iPhone videos for fun for a while now, but I have to admit, this is the best looking footage I've ever seen on any smartphone. Don't get me wrong, the sensor is still pretty small and a lot of defects and artifacts might show up, but these ProRes files look much less digital and they remind a bit more of a mirrorless camera rather than an iPhone. You can also shoot directly to an external SSD like a Samsung T5 via USB-C (which is exactly what I did in this video). Everything was recorded in the native camera app except for a couple of clips at the end (the ones in low light). I tried to use the new Blackmagic camera app, but unfortunately there is something off with the exposure where the clips look much darker when you bring them in Resolve. I think it's a bug they need to address as soon as possible. I also used a 6 stops NiSi IRND rigged with some gaff tape to the back of the smartphone. Edited and graded in DaVinci Resolve with BUTTERY LUTs!
