Hi, my name is Dr. Craig Jonov, I'm from the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery in Lynnwood, Washington just north of Seattle and I've been asked a question commonly about a tummy tuck procedure. Where the incision is located? Ideally we like to place the incision as low as possible in relationship to where the pantyline is or in the area of where a woman might wear her panty or her pants line. Those have changed over time, instead of a French cut in the past, when the incision were higher up on the waist, now they tend to be a little lower because of the fashion and the style of clothing that women wear. We tend to keep them a little lower and in the extent of where they need to be are basically based on the individual and how much contouring we have to do to reduce the amount of fullness to achieve the ideal contour. Those are the decisions we make as well as how much tissue that needs to be removed. If we're able to move the belly button area all the way down to the lower section we do that all in one area and leave the incision as low as possible. Sometimes patients don't need as much of that tissue to be removed and instead of doing a full tummy tuck we can do a partial or might be able to float the belly button. If the belly button appears to be a little high, it can be moved down a little bit and it minimizes the amount and the extension of tissues that need to be removed and makes the recovery a little bit easier and actually reduces some risk in doing the procedure as well.
