(18 Feb 2015) Hundreds of sequin-clad, samba-dancing children paraded in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, dazzling the audience at the city's famous Sambadrome as part of annual Carnival festivities.
The children taking part in Tuesday's parade are from the city's samba schools and vary in age from three to 14.
"It's really moving because this is our Brazilian culture, I love carnival and I practice a lot (for the parade)," said 12-year-old performer Kevin Lucas, who was parading for the first time on Tuesday.
The parade featured an abundance of multi-coloured costumes, floats and samba drums, just like those in the parades by the top samba schools.
"They will be the adults tomorrow and this is the happiness and satisfaction (you can see) because they like it," said Elenise Moreira, from the Vila Isabel Samba School.
Since 2008 a group of children with learning difficulties from Moreira's school have also taken part in the parade, with the aim of ending discrimination against them.
The five-day-long carnival festivities in Rio de Janeiro come to an end on Tuesday.
