William Wallace
- Born in Elderslie, Scotland in the 1270s
- Witnessed the brutal execution of his father and elder brother by the English
- Became a key figure in the Scottish Wars of Independence against England in the late 13th century
- Led a successful rebellion against English rule in Scotland, winning several key battles including the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297
- Was appointed as Guardian of Scotland, the de facto leader of the Scottish resistance, in 1298
- Continued to lead the Scottish rebellion against English rule, but suffered a major defeat at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298
- Went into hiding for several years, but was captured by the English in 1305
- Was tried for treason and executed by hanging, drawing, and quartering in London
