TWO PARTS that NEED REPLACING in 47RE/48RE TRANSMISSIONS. In this video I go over two parts that are inside the 47re transmission and 48re transmission that are very easy to get to and replace if you have the pan off and you're doing cummins transmission fluid change. We all know the cummins transmission is the weak link whether you have a 2nd gen cummins with the 47re transmission or a 3rd gen cummins with a 48re transmission, neither transmission is capable of handling the torque output of the cummins engine when you start modding things to gain higher horsepower. The first part to replace is the 47re governor solenoid. stock governor solenoid failure symptoms would be a 1-2 shuttle shift. the best thing you can do is a 2nd gen cummins GM governor solenoid upgrade. The gm style governor solenoid is much bigger and can handle higher 47re transmission line pressure. The second part to replace is the pressure transducer. The failure symptoms of the pressure sensor/transducer are the same as the governor solenoid. The pressure transducer sends messages to the PCM for the governor solenoid so when the transducer goes bad then you'll experience trouble with the governor solenoid also and the 47re transmission will have trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear or it will take off in 2nd gear from a stop. The BD Diesel pressure transducer is your best option from upgrading 47re pressure transducer. It is made of metal rather than plastic like the stock transducer. The 47re and 48re transmissions also have something called torque management which is dsigned to defuel the 2nd gen cummins and 3rd gen cummins from 1st to 2nd gear and up to 25 mph. The reasoning behind this torque management is to go easy on the transmissions in an attempt to keep them healthy and not have any issues from the torque created from the cummins engine.
