Peruvians welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Peru and hope more cooperation with China.
Peru is one of the countries in Latin America with the largest number of Chinese. Currently about ten percent of its 30 million population are of Chinese origin.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1971, the two countries have become each other's important trading partners. People in Peru hope that President Xi's visit will bring the relationship to a new level.
"We as Chinese are very excited. We have lived in Peru for six and a half years. We will convey the Chinese culture and history to people here. I hope that the Chinese culture will take roots in their mind and that friendship and bridge between China and Peru can be linked," said Gan Fengzi, a Chinese restaurant owner.
"It seems to me the visit by President Xi is of paramount importance. I have just learned that once the APEC meeting is over he will be staying in Peru. I think this is a huge step forwards for us Peruvians to be able to maintain foreign relations, especially with China, a country that develops so fast. Establishing free trade brings new economic models and opportunities which will offer a more promising future," said Juan Carlos, an actor.
"We expect the visit of President Xi to be the starting point of the growth of the cooperation between Peru and China. We expect our relations to go to the next level in order to perform a better way of integrating our economies, allowing the Peruvian entrepreneurs to go to China, allowing the Chinese entrepreneurs to come to Peru. We welcome the investment from China in our country. We expect them to grow with us as much as we want to grow with them," said Rafael, an entrepreneur in Peru.
"We'd love to see our presidents getting together to build a solid relationship, which is very good for both countries. We want the Chinese president to leave Peru feeling deep inside that Peru will always open its door to China in various fields such as economy as well as political and cultural exchanges," said Centelle, a journalist.
