The fact that Lexus is one of the last automakers to cars with naturally aspirated V8 engines definitely came out of left field. After all, this is the luxury arm of Toyota, which pushed hybrid sales into a new era with the Prius. But maybe all of the various hybrids in the Lexus and Toyota lineup can offset models like the LC 500, RC F, and IS 500 in the final days before the V8 disappears for good.
Out of all those V8 options, though, the IS 500 F Sport Performance offers the best mix of performance, practicality, and affordability. With four doors and seating for five, plus that 472-horsepower 5.0-liter, the IS somehow still weighs less than the bulky LC and RC coupes. And the heritage of the original IS and its 2JZ inline-six still flows through despite a grumbling exhaust note serving as a constant reminder of the grunt under the hood.
