Heart disease remains the number one killer of women, taking the life of one in three women each year.
"I think it's important that we focus on treating people who not only have severe forms of the disease but also focus on primary prevention in terms of detecting these people who have the heart problems and preventing them from getting worse," said Dr. Roy Venzon, Cardiologists, LC.
Women sometimes fail to recognize the warning signs of heart disease -- St. Luke's and Cardiologists, L.C. want you to know the symptoms.
"The more uncommon or non-traditional symptoms for angina or heart problems would include just being fatigued, short of breath or pain elsewhere not necessarily in the left side of her chest but maybe on her right side and sometimes in the chest area as well," said Dr. Venzon.
Common symptoms include heaviness, pressure or a painful feeling in your chest, jaw or back. Other symptoms may include sweating, nausea or dizziness.
"Time is muscle and the longer you wait before you have your heart attack treated the more damage occurs to the heart muscle," said Dr. Venzon.
