In 1973, Florida surfers David Hettel, Chris Tyler and Tom DeMoss took their first trip to Costa Rica and stumbled upon the best performance wave in the country: Doña Ana...a long, hollow wave with the most rippable sections one could imagine. In 1974 Chris and Tom returned with Robert Sprat and those sessions are the ones in this video.
In 1978 the wave was destroyed forever, as we go over in this video.
This Super 8 film has been in a closet for 50 years, unseen, until today.
Marco Pacheco, local Costa Rica surfing and shaping pioneer lends some stories about the fabled wave as well.
