The tachometer on my E30 was broken, so I couldn't see what RPM my engine was running at. I fixed it by replacing the original CR14250SE lithium batteries with some much cheaper and readily available CR2 batteries (a.k.a. 1/2 AA batteries). The old batteries were welded on, but we won't need to do any welding to replace them :-)

This is my 1991 BMW E30, 318i, with M40 engine. Right hand drive, made in Malaysia. I am restoring it on my own, right here at home, in my porch, with some hand tools.
