Breaking the Cycle is a club making a difference by introducing children to careers in the art world that are outside their exposure. We realized that many children in limited income areas have a world wind of talent and potential but are unfortunately limited in knowing what fields that they can apply themselves to professionally.
Each Friday, our teams goes to Kayton Homes Boys and Girls club to introduce the children to a major/art career such as architecture, sequential art, fashion, film, etc. We get a thrill from seeing the kids get excited about trying new things and seeing what they are good at. In addition to working with their artistic skills, in working with Breaking the Cycle the kids are learning character skills such as team work, building self-esteem and creating long lasting bonds with our volunteers/mentors.
This video acts as a trailer to a documentary about how in this limited, resource-deprived neighborhood, there are gems, a gold mine of small people who are going to do some great things.
Audrey Pray Jr. created this video. I was hired by her later to replace some of the harsh dialogue, you will hear the difference in parts, however some pieces of dialogue were too powerful to remove. I personally think it came out great!
