The r-squared is the Coefficient of Determination, expressing the proportion of variance in the dependent variable (Y) explained by variance in the independent variable (X). The reverse of the squared value of correlation coefficient is the proportion of variance in the dependent variable (Y) unexplained by variance in the independent variable (X), called the coefficient of alienation
