In his presentation at Frontiers Forum Live 2023, Professor Carlos Peres from the University of East Anglia, UK, explained the real-world evidence that made him one of the first Frontiers Planet Prize International Champions.
Through their research, professor Carlos Peres and his team showed that community-based conservation programs in the Amazon not only benefit natural ecosystems but also improve the livelihoods of people living in protected areas. This win-win empowerment of local communities could be scaled across the entire lowland Amazon, and highlights the value of maintaining and strengthening human-occupied forest reserves.
