Dr. Matt Kalady, a colorectal surgeon and the division director for the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, says patients may be interested in joining clinical trials because it gives them an opportunity to get a new treatment that may not be available under regular care. Additionally, he says new treatment paradigms, such as delivering chemoradiation and chemotherapy before surgery may allow patients to be treated completely without surgery.
