Happy 82nd Birthday, Golden Gate Bridge! On this day in history: the Golden Gate Bridge opened to the public in 1937. At the time it was the longest bridge in the world — 80,000 miles of steel cable on the bridge and the two bridge towers rising 746 feet. More than 200,000 people crossed the Golden Gate Bridge on the first day — and then tens of thousands of cars followed the next.
