If you guys are fans of Queen's 1981 concerts (I love them myself), then you shall enjoy this next upload! This is Queen's second of three Buenos Aires shows, and this concert has some excellent moments throughout! This recording has good quality overall (the sound comes from TV broadcasts), and it's mostly complete (some of the beginnings and endings of songs are slightly cut--due to someone removing the commentary in between songs).
This concert is pretty underrated overall (despite the video being popular all over Youtube), and deserves some love (like a couple other shows from this time period)! The performances are much tighter compared with the first Buenos Aires show (the band make far fewer mistakes), and "Somebody To Love" makes its first concert appearance in almost 8 months! "Fat Bottomed Girls" also returns to the set-list (after being absent for the Japanese shows and the previous Buenos Aires show). On the other hand, the medley is surprisingly dropped (only "I'm In Love With My Car" remains)!
Freddie's voice is in very good shape on this show. Although he isn't as daring as future 1981 shows (he doesn't attempt as many higher passages that he normally does), his tone sounds great (it's reminiscent of the future Live Aid), and he doesn't oversing the hell out of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (most versions from this time period have him belting Bb4s all over the place)! Now, time for the analysis!
The fast "We Will Rock You" sounds good, "Let Me Entertain You" is solid--but there's better versions from later gigs, "Play The Game" has some rough spots, but the vocal phrasing is nice, "Somebody To Love" has an awesome vocal delivery by Freddie (especially the vocal solo), "Get Down Make Love" is conservative (Freddie doesn't hit any Bb4s in the song), but solid nonetheless, "Need Your Loving Tonight" is good and Freddie actually REMEMBERS THE FREAKING WORDS! "Save Me" is a good version (despite all the technical problems with the microphones), the "Now I'm Here/Dragon Attack" section is good (the vocal improvs are very creative), "Fat Bottomed Girls" is great, "Love Of My Life" is nice, and "Keep Yourself Alive" is energetic and performed well!
"Flash" has some rough harmonies in the beginning and Freddie dodging the "no one but the pure of heart" line, but the song goes well overall. "The Hero" is good, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" sounds great, "Bohemian Rhapsody" has conservative phrasing--but that may be welcoming to fans who aren't fond of the versions with oversinging! "Tie Your Mother Down" has great vocal phrasing by Freddie, "Another One Bites The Dust" is pretty good--but there's better versions later on, "Sheer Heart Attack" sounds great, "We Will Rock You" is good, and "We Are The Champions" has some rough moments, but still sounds alright!
ENJOY!!!
Note: The video for this show has been uploaded all over Youtube. It's contains some great moments (like the light show, and the crowd singing along with "Love Of My Life"), and some funny moments (like Freddie dealing with microphone problems on "Save Me," and Freddie having to throw the tambourine back into the audience when they throw it on stage!).
