Do you hear the difference of between the DCD996 and the DCD998 from the clip? They sound different and feel different.
Many of youtubers and even Dewalt did only talk about the power. But the results were about to same and the key was the battery not the drill. 21700 cells improve the power of the drills that's it!
But are they really same? Nothing different? They look a little different. But that's it?
The RPM is same (450/1300/2000) and the torque also (95Nm). So
there are many users who do not admit both DCD998 and DCD999 as the next gen of 996 because of the specs are all same.
Dewalt Tech team confirm it and they told me that if you us the high powered battery pack like 6Ah which have 21700 cells in it it will raise as approximately 120Nm. So these numbers mean nothing.
Recently I got DCD998 and I fount that the vibration and noise of DCD 998 is way lower than DCD996. Compare to DCD996, the DCD998's vibration is less than 2 times. It is about equal to premium German drill drivers (frankly a littel less) and I think it is another achievement. You may not interested in the vibration of your drill driver but the torque. But this means they changed the motor and improved it anyways.
Now DCD996 was discontinued and they came to expect more about next gen of 996 but I think it will not happen. Because it already done. Also I do not think human being can handle more power from cordless drills. What do you think?
I'm expecting the next gen of it would be little smaller and lighter. But Dewalt, if you put some safety feature in them like kickback control or so, please do not forget to install 'on and off' switch for it. Exccesive safety controls limits effeicincy of the tools.
