Haleem also known as Daleem is a Ramadan special and Eid Special, after opening ones fast Haleem is eaten to energise the body as it is packed with protein and nutrients and fibre.

Haleem is a traditional stew made with meat, barley, lentils and spices which are slow cooked for 6/8 hours to produce a thick, porridge like consistency. Haleem is typically served with naan but can be eaten with rice too.

Haleem is a dish of the royals and is a truly amazing and aromatic dish! A crowd pleaser for sure!

The beauty of Haleem is that it can be prepared well in advance of any event as it allows the flavours to develop and can be kept in the freezer until needed. Just take it out on the day and defrost and serve it up garnished with chillies, julienne's of ginger, coriander and fresh lemon wedges.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup of oil (240ml) & extra for the tarka
1.5kg mutton chops on the bone or meat of your choice
500g of county soup mix
1/2 cup of Moong dhal & Chana dhal (120g)
I.5 packets of Shan Haleem mix
2 medium onions finely sliced
Green chillies finely sliced
Fresh ginger julienne
Lemon wedges 
Fresh coriander to garnish
1.5 kettles of boiled water
