Soprano Helena Tenhunen and organist Kalevi Kiviniemi perform Svarta rosor (black roses) by Jean Sibelius. This was filmed and recorded in the Lakeuden Risti Church at Seinäjoki, Finland, in autumn 2015.
Lakeuden Risti Church (Cross of Plains) was designed by the world famous Finnish architect and professor Alvar Aalto. Aalto's idea was to make a modern church but according to medieval cathedrals. Church was inaugurated in 1960. The acoustics of the Lakeuden Risti is one of the finest in Finland.
The organ was made by Kangasalan urkutehdas (Kangasala Organ Builders) in 1960 and renovated by Organ Builder Veikko Virtanen. It has 53 stops, electro-pneumatic key action and electrical stop action. The organ front and placement is closely integrated with the architecture of the church and is also designed by Aalto.
Church is part of the unique Seinäjoki town centre, 'Aalto Centre', the most important work of Alvar Aalto. Other buildings are town hall, library, parish centre, central government office building and theatre.
