In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Singapore General Hospital turned one of its open air carparks into its newest infectious diseases ward in just 50 days.
Construction began during the 'circuit breaker' when many foreign construction workers were isolated in their dormitories, causing delays.
The virus outbreak ward is made of prefabricated isolation units that were shipped to Singapore from South Korea, It comprises 50 air-conditioned single negative pressure rooms with ensuite toilets. Patients here wearable bio-sensors and use in-room smartphones to call for help if needed.
It opened to patients for the first time on Jul 15, 2020, and has doubled the hospital’s isolation capacity.
