NEW YORK — Although the RKO Hamilton Theatre in Harlem at Broadway & West 146 Street closed its doors more than a half century ago, over the years it has been used variously as a house of worship, boxing auditorium, and more. Saturday night, however beneath its peeling rafters it was the site of another spectacle well worth the journey into the northerly reaches Manhattan, namely the Alexander Wang Fall / Winter 2017 runway show. Invited guests made their way down into the theatre where they crowded around a raised runway shoulder to shoulder. Producer Metro Boomin kept the standing room hyped by playing scores of Atlanta hip hop standards from the Outkast to Migos. By the time the girls stomped across the stage wearing the looks from this all-black collection, a half dozen models from Next could be counted including Selena Forrest, Katlin Aas, Marjan Jonkman, Sophia Friesen, Binx, and Kennah Lau. Front of house, Caroline Vreeland, Dua Lipa, and Caroline de Maigret, who arrived with Saif Mahdhi, represented for Next and helped make superfluous any need for an after party.
