Directed by Jayme Coveliers, “AWKN” is an honorable mention in AGBO’s inaugural No Sleep ‘til Film Fest filmmaking competition.
Synopsis: A man puts a chip in his brain that allows him to work in his sleep and his unconsciousness begins to unravel.
Bio: Jayme Coveliers is a filmmaker from Chicago now living and creating out of New York City. Narrative or documentary, they love telling stories and are obsessed with every part of the filmmaking process.
The Making of “AWKN”: We were circling around a couple different ideas but nothing really stuck. Around 2PM on Saturday, with the clock ticking, I just started typing down random premises that revolved around bending or twisting reality. Eventually, I typed out "Working in your dreams," and instantly that sparked our imagination. We thought of all these different 'what if' scenarios that revolved around the concept and the story built itself in front of us. We loved the idea that in our waking life, corporations and capitalism have taken over almost every single moment possible. You're hard pressed to find a space completely free of advertising or your phone. They're everywhere. What happens when that extends into your dreams, the one place they have yet to touch?
In a matter of hours, we got all of the makeup and props we needed and I (Jayme) started writing the script out, putting together the camera, and just ran through it from setup to setup. I was on camera and directing, with everyone else grabbing sound and moving everything into place. Evan and I put it together really quickly, adding effects and sound as we went. We worked right down to the wire and just got it in. We were so pleased with how it turned out that the following weekend we shot/edited a slightly longer version that really emphasizes his mind unraveling: [ Ссылка ]
