Welcome back everyone! I’m so glad you’re here to watch my newest video. Today we’ll be exploring a location that opened it doors in 1905. An abandoned Tuberculosis sanatorium. These massive structures were built to treat patients with tuberculosis. A deadly respiratory disease that has killed millions over the centuries. Sanatoriums started popping up around 1880 to combat the massive amount of sick people who needed help. With no cure insight people believed fresh air and sunlight was enough to rid them of their sickness but it wasn’t. Doctor and surgeons ran tests and experimented on patients often having them die in surgery due to blood loss. Taking out ones ribs was a common surgical method as patients lungs would fill with blood, this was thought to help but it did more harm then anything. These places tried to secluded the sick away from society but at the end of the day a cure was needed. In the early 1950s a cure was formulated and tuberculosis became very easily treatable. It’s still around today but with a vaccine it can be cured. This massive structures that once help thousands of sick patients now lie abandoned just waiting to crumble.
