The Shuttleworth Collection 2021 season built from where the 2020 shows had left off. Whilst 2021 on the whole saw something closer to a traditional UK airshow season, the pioneering drive in format of the Old Warden events proved invaluable during this season in order to ensure the events could go ahead within the ever changing restrictions.
As the season went on attendees were able to enjoy more and more of the classic Shuttleworth experience, with the final show of the year returning to the traditional format with the crowd once again gathered down at the fence.
2021 also saw a full season, aside from the unfortunate weather related cancellation of the final race day event in October.
This years season review takes on a slightly different format, allowing you to enjoy the variety of both visiting and collection acts handpicked from throughout the year to present the very best of the 2021 season at Old Warden.
This multi-disk set will take you through a year at Old Warden and provide a wonderful sample of that Shuttleworth magic.
The first part of this set highlight visiting displays from the year with disc one including highlights such as the stunning Hispano Buchon solo from the Season Premiere, the Cranfield University Jetstream returning to display again in June and the wonderful de Havilland gathering from June that saw 7 chipmunks fly together, as well as a wonderful collection of Moths.
The second selection of visiting acts takes us through the middle of the season, largely covering the Military show and the July evening show. Highlights here include the debut for Historic Helicopters Sea King HC4, a trio of non-collection world war one types, in the form of the based SE5a, Bristol Scout and Nieuport 17. On the lighter side of aviation this disk also highlights the wonderful F1 racing pair of Cosmic Wind “Ballerina” and a Cassut Racer.
The final selection of visiting performances brings the season to a close with a real variety on show. From the Flying Circus event we can enjoy the Aerosuperbatics Wing Walking team and the spectacular fire works display. The family airshow saw another of Historic Helicopter’s Sea King take to the Old Warden display line as well as a first appearance from the Blackpool based L-39 Albatross. Finally, from the vintage show there are such highlights as Peter Teichamn’s Russian Spitfire IX and the wonderful Stampe Team.
Rounding off this wonderful collection of highlights is a look at the collection airframes on show throughout the year. Rather than including numerous performances for each type this year’s selection has picked out a single appearance from each to best showcase the type. Here you will get a chance to enjoy old favourites such as the classic racers with a performance from the DH88 Comet, a pair of Mew Gulls and the Hawk Speed Six. There is a wide selection of collection WW1 machines on show, with a notable return from the newly overhauled Bristol F2b. Without a doubt a high point of this section is the wonderful appearance of the English Electric Wren in full flight at the July evening show.
Of course, no Old Warden season would be complete without the Edwardian machines and this year saw all of the airworthy examples in the air so this programme features the Bristol Boxkite, Avro Triplane, Blackburn Monoplane, Deperdussin and the rarely flown Bleriot XI.
As if all this was not enough to enjoy, the final part of this selection gives you a chance to enjoy these machines from the other side of the fence, with a selection of on board footage from the displaying aircraft throughout the season.
You will be hard pushed to find as complete an account of a Shuttleworth season as is included here and tis programme will be a real treat for any aviation enthusiast.
All at the collection have worked so hard to ensure that these events can take place. Hopefully, you’ll be able to join them in the 2022 season.
