After World War II, Hungary became a country of multibillionaires. The Hungarian currency pengö became the world record holder for inflation: quadrillion-pengö notes were in circulation, prices doubled every 15 hours, bundles of depreciated money were thrown on city streets and shoveled about like rubbish.
