I’ve been lucky enough to be loaned this Ruger M77 MK1 for filming today
Chambered in .270
During the 1960s Bill Ruger wanted to expand his company's offerings into the Bolt action rifle market
Essentially aiming for a “ Modernised Mauser 98 “ style action
He would go onto contract Jim Sullivan to make this dream a reality
The final design follows closely Mausers' M98 rifle core design with a few departures
Namely the Ejection method has change from a fixed ejector mounted to the Bolt stop/removal mechanism to a Plunger ejector on the bolt face
A tang mounted safety which is much more akin to Over&Under/Side by Side shotgun safeties
And an action screw which instead of going straight up through the action it goes diagonally pulling the action into a tighter bedding into the stock
I’m thankful to have had the chance to give this rifle a look
Hope you enjoyed it
Cheers
