Famous for guitar, this arrangement for cello solo has been written and performed by Georg Mertens on 26 July 2017 Concert for "Speleo2017 - Caves in an Ancient Land" in the Cathedral Chamber at Jenolan Caves, Australia. The ancient cave (400 million years, world oldest) rests in total silence, constant temperature 15 degrees, height 54m.

For 100 years the Cathedral Chamber has the reputation to harbour the world's purest acoustics. Around 1920 Dame Nelly Melba travelled with horse and cart to the the remote cave to sing. C 1960 Dame Joan Sutherland travelled to sing there and a decade later John Denver. For these famous singers no concert had been arranged since there was no one to do so. I am proud having initiated regular concerts, which ended up the world's longest series of cello concerts 1997-2013. Unfortunately the Cave is today inaccessible due to destruction by fire and mud slides.
p.s. Georg has recorded "Spanish Romance" first on Classical guitar, LP (vinyl) 1983.
Georg is a cello teacher / performer and composer in the Blue Mountains / Australia
