Leash reactivity is when your dog is reactive on-leash but not necessarily reactive off-leash.
Many people see leash reactivity and mistakenly label it as aggression (especially with certain breeds). Zeke is not aggressive. He's actually fairly social with other dogs.
But when Zeke is on a leash and sees another dog, the leash holds him back, making him frustrated. This frustration leads to him lunging, barking, and pulling towards the other dog.
These reactive outbursts are rewarding for him, so he does it every time he sees another dog by default. Our goal is to change his default.
In order to fix Zeke’s leash reactivity, we must:
1. Show him that he is NOT allowed to react towards other dogs.
2. Teach him HOW to properly behave around other dogs.
3. Give him an outlet for his energy/drive.
