When I picked up my peaches from The Peach Truck on a Wednesday, I imagined a pleasant waft of ripe peaches permeating my car. What I got was a cold box of hard-as-a-rock peaches from a reefer truck.
I know produce distribution. I don't know why I thought this would be any different.
So, I followed the instructions and laid them out on a sheet pan on top of a towel and waited. And waited. And waited -- ok, it wasn't that long. I tried them on Friday afternoon and they were excellent. I'm not saying they were the sweetest peach I've ever had because I've had some amazing peaches in my time in the produce industry -- most notably straight off the tree at test orchards in Reedley, CA. It's hard to top that experience.
These, however, were better than any peach I've bought from the store this year, so I'd call that a success.
