They do very much in matter of fact have the beat. The Go-Gos finally bring the fun back to the stage after several false starts (bought tickets for this show originally on 1/23/20 and after rescheduling 3 times the 4th date was the charm, and good thing the ladies remain so damn charming thus they were totally worth the wait!).
Only bummer is their drummer, Gina, is recovering from surgery so couldn’t play (but she was there and came up on stage a couple times to assure all she will be back). In her place though was Clem Burke, a fellow Rock Hall of Famer, and Blondie’s drummer. Was kinda funny watching some of the soccer moms lose their ‘effin minds when the big hits were played. But props to them for getting out on a school night and dancing like I was the only one watching.
Gotta admit I was glad I chose to wear a mask (Vax checks were at the door, but masks were optional, though saw few of those as the City is reopening to norms again) as that way it wasn’t obvious this ol’ geezer was gleefully singing along on all those ultra syrupy Pop background vocal parts…that apparently have remained etched in my brain since the songs came out 40ish years ago. Those are some finely crafted ditties that are easily standing the test of time. And despite being in their 60s they still all look, move, perform and appear 15 years younger and less jaded than me (ok, 15 is probably a best case estimate for me).
Go see them if they come anywhere near you as no camera can capture their infectious (masked or not) energy.
