VIOLENT MAY DAY PROTEST
A May Day march in Seattle turned violent when demonstrators threw rocks and wrenches at police, who responded by lobbing flashbangs and shooting pepper balls. Hundreds of demonstrators protested in pro-worker, anti-capitalist, and anti-police-brutality rallies. Three officers were injured at and a total of fifteen people have been arrested across the city.
INDEPENDENT PROBE FOR GRAVES
International organizations are attempting to pressure the Thai government into authorizing an independent investigation, with the assistance of the United Nations to discover mass Rohingya graves at a human trafficking camp in southern Thailand. The ruling junta has said it has made the fight against trafficking a top priority after the country was downgraded to the lowest level in a US State Trafficking Department. However, the Human Rights Watch say local officials remain complicit.
WWII REPARATIONS FOR GREECE
German President Joachim Gauck has said he is considering Greece’s demand for reparations for damages caused during World War two. He stated that he understands Greece’s compensation claims, and called on his country to examine the demands. According to figures presented by Greece's Deputy Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas, Germany owes the country up to €287.7 billion in reparations, €10.3 billion of which are for forced loans taken by the Nazis.
ROYAL BABY BORN
The fourth baby who is in line to the throne was born at 07:34 GMT on May 2nd. The palace stated that both Catherine and her daughter are in good condition. The Duchess gave birth at the St Mary's Hospital where their first child Prince George was born on July 2013. The name of the baby will be announced in due course.
