"The Met" was the trading name of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), which was the public transport authority for Melbourne, Australia from 1983 to 1999. The MTA was responsible for the operation of Melbourne's trains, trams, and buses.
During its operation, "The Met" was responsible for the planning, management, and maintenance of Melbourne's public transport network. This included setting fares, managing schedules, and ensuring that vehicles were maintained and in good working condition.
"The Met" was also responsible for implementing changes and improvements to Melbourne's public transport network. For example, during its operation, "The Met" oversaw the construction of new train and tram lines, as well as the introduction of new technologies such as the Metcard ticketing system.
In 1999, "The Met" was replaced by a new public transport authority called "Public Transport Corporation." However, some of the services provided by "The Met" continue to operate under different names and management structures today. For example, Melbourne's tram network is now operated by Yarra Trams, while the train network is operated by Metro Trains Melbourne.
