Ideally temperatures for pouring concrete should be above 10 degrees Celsius or 50 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperatures start to dip below these temperatures, the process of curing or hardening the green or new concrete slows down dramatically and is at risk of freezing as temperatures approach or fall below 40F or 4C. If freezing temperatures are reached, the curing process will halt completely and the concrete surface will freeze and fail.

Using a heavy plastic cover or tarp can help to trap the heat that is produces during the curing process if the weather is not too cold, around 10C or 50F. If it is very cold, near freezing, heating blankets could be used to produce the heat needed for the start of the curing process to begin and not freeze that wet, newly poured concrete.
