Hola Magik Wanderers
We knew that Chichen Itza had to be on our itinerary this trip and we desperately wanted to avoid doing it as a day trip from the coast so we stayed overnight in Valladolid to rise early, and get there before the tourists coaches arrived.
From Valladolid, we used the collectivo, just a calle away from the Ado terminal, and it cost 80 pesos each for a return trip. The first bus is at 7am, and It took around 35 minutes to get there.
Chichen Itza opens at 8 am.
I was surprised at the number of facilities they had in the entrance hub, toilets, refreshments, and lockers. You can hire a tour guide for 1000 pesos directly outside, and if you pay for this and your entrance tickets in cash, you can skip the queue.
Fortunately, there was very little queue when we arrived.
Wow, just wow. I knew it would feel a special kind of sacred, but as soon as I saw El Castillo, I was overcome with emotion and cried. What a privilege it was to visit this land. I returned instantly to my heart space and was in awe.
We had planned to return to Valladolid and visit a cenote, but the one in town was closed, and we were running out of time before our Ado bus back to Playa.
We definitely recommend visiting Chichen Itza early. As we were leaving at 10.30 am, the tourist day tripper coaches were arriving with the daily 3000 people.
We hope you enjoyed this little snapshot of Chichen Itza. We would love to hear if you have visited and what you thought and felt.
