Are all prime numbers odd? No, there happens to be one even prime! The one even prime number of course, is 2. Is 2 prime? Is there an even prime? What are prime numbers? What is the definition of a prime number? Hopefully you will not have any of these questions after this lesson! Here is why 2 is prime.

Every even number by definition is divisible by 2. For most even numbers, this disqualifies it from being prime because it is then at the very least divisible by 1, itself, and 2. In the case of 2, however, being divisible by 2 does not disqualify it from being prime because 2 is itself. It is divisible by 1 and 2, which is 1 and itself, and nothing else, so it is prime.
