Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Ultrasound Report Example | How To Write Gynecological USG Report
Ultrasound Report:
Clinical Information:
- Age: 34 years
- Complaints of irregular menstrual cycles, weight gain, and difficulty conceiving.
Technique:
Transabdominal and transvaginal sonography was performed using a high-frequency transducer.
Findings:
Uterus: The uterus is anteverted, measuring 8 cm in length, 4 cm in anteroposterior diameter, and 5 cm in width. The myometrium is homogeneous with no focal lesions. The endometrial stripe measures 0.5 cm and is uniform in thickness.
Ovaries: Both ovaries are enlarged. The right ovary measures 4 x 3 x 3 cm, and the left ovary measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 3 cm. Each ovary contains multiple small follicles measuring 2-9 mm in diameter, arranged peripherally, which gives the appearance of a "string of pearls," characteristic of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). No dominant follicles or cysts are noted.
Adnexa: No adnexal masses or free fluid is noted in the cul-de-sac.
Impression:
- Bilateral polycystic ovaries as evidenced by the presence of multiple small peripheral follicles and increased ovarian volume.
- No evidence of ovarian or adnexal masses.
- Findings are consistent with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), correlating with the clinical presentation of irregular menses and infertility concerns.
Recommendations:
- Follow-up with a gynecologist or endocrinologist for further evaluation and management of PCOS.
- Consider hormonal profiles, metabolic screening, and fertility counseling as part of comprehensive management.
