Most recently I recorded and presented to you a suite for baroque lute in g-minor (Allemande, Menuet, Courante, Gavotte, Guigue) composed by Matthias Siegmund Biechteler von Greiffenthal (1668–1743) from the Harrach Manuscript, Vienna, Austria. Biechteler started his carrier as valet and musician in 1687 in Salzburg. In 1706 he became court music director in Salzburg. Apparently, solo lute music by Biechteler is less known to the audience.
To complete the picture if Biechteler, today I recorded a ”Prelude de monsieur Piectele” in B Major and a ”Prelude de monsieur Piectele” in g minor from the manuscript PL-Kj MUS 40620 (olim: Berlin). This manuscript booklet contains several Preludij by Biechteler (”Biectele”), apparently composed by Biechteler as additional and opening pieces to suites of other composers such as Johann Anton Losy (1650 – 1721). Eventually, he used his complementary pieces as excercises for his students as inscrips such as ”Aria de monsieur Biectele mon très cher Maistre” tell us.
