Here is my instrumental cover of Dear Prudence! One of my favourites from the White Album. One of the very first things I ever recorded was a cover of this song, so it was interesting comparing it with my new cover to see how much I've improved and learnt since then. Hope you enjoy! Dear Prudence was written by John Lennon while the group were in Rishikesh, India, studying meditation in early 1968. John wrote the song for Prudence Farrow, the younger-sister of actress Mia Farrow, who was also in India at the time. She grew such an obsession with deep meditation which resulted in lapsing into a catatonic state; not recognizing anyone and locking herself in her room. John was selected to try and encourage her to come out and engage with the rest of the group; hence writing the song Dear Prudence.
The actual recording session for the White Album didn't take place until three months later. Having recently recorded Hey Jude using Trident Studio's eight track tape machine, they returned here to track Dear Prudence in August 1968. As Ringo had temporarily left the band at this time, the song only features the three remaining Beatles.
The exact recording process is a bit obscured by the fact that some tracks were internally bounced. John recorded several takes of the distinctive finger-picking part using his Epiphone Casino through DI, which were bounced to a single track on the tape machine. George played lead on his Gibson SG, and Paul played drums in Ringo's absence. Further overdubs include John's double tracked vocals (where I believe the tambourine and acoustic guitar bleed through), Paul's bass and piano, several more electric guitar tracks from John and George, and backing vocals and handclaps.
