The year is 5,500 BC. The Starčevo culture occupied a sizeable area of the Balkans, bringing with them the farming societies of the First Temperate Neolithic. Things never remain the same and in the region of the former Yugoslavia, a successor culture would emerge that would be distinguished for the earliest proto-writing found in Europe.
