This animation depicts a decompression surgery of the lumbar spine. First, incision sites are made over L4-5 and L5-S1 levels. After dilation, tubular retractors are placed. There are hemilaminectomies at L4 and L5, followed by foraminotomies at L4-5 and L5-S1. The thecal sac is then decompressed following an annulotomy, discectomy and removal of herniated disc at the L4-5 and L5-S1 disc spaces. A radiofrequency device is then used to perform an annuloplasty, completing the surgery.
