A fire in one townhouse in the 3400 block of Softwood Terrace in Olney quickly spread to two neighboring houses, totally destroying the first house and heavily damaging the other two. The fire reportedly began one someone in the first house threw sometime of accelerant on wood in a fireplace. One report indicated that the accelerant was lighter fluid. The nearly explosive fire spread rapidly before local fire departments could arrive to bring it under control. The Washington Post reported two people were injured.
