UK Prime Minister David Cameron's arrival and doorstep interview at the October 2012 European Council Summit. Cameron said that Europe needs to become more competitive by deregulating, making trade deals, and focusing on improving the Single Market.
"I want to be on the side of hard pressed hard working families that often struggle to pay energy bills. That's why I said in the House of Commons yesterday we're going to use the forthcoming legislation, the energy bill, coming up this year so that we make sure, we ensure, that customers get the lowest tariffs. That's what we're going to do.
As for this meeting this afternoon, as I've said, we're in a global race. We need to make sure we're competitive. We need to make sure the European Union is competitive. That means deregulation, cutting the cost of regulation, it means supporting enterprise, it means doing trade deals with the biggest economies of the world - the United States of America, Japan - the fastest growing countries of the world, and above all it means completing the thing that matters most for us in Europe, which is the Single Market. That can be an engine of growth and there's more work to be done. So that's what I'll be doing."
