According to reports, Russia is deploying its formidable 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled artillery to the battlefield in Ukraine. With a 70-kilometer range of firepower, the double barrel of the Koalitsiya-SV guarantees improved striking capability in addition to its amazing rate of fire.
The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV artillery's first prototype is built on the T-80 tank chassis, and its armament was created using the 2S19 Msta-S self-propelled artillery. The new cannon integrates a whole new turret with the chassis and automotive parts from the Msta-S.
Two 2S35 Koalitiya-SV double-barreled prototypes have been completed at least, one of which has a slightly altered main gun layout and a distinctively curved rear turret. Russian weapon designers appear to be particularly interested in various sorts of double-barreled guns.
The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV has a remarkable rate of fire in addition to having two barrels that provide improved first-strike capabilities and serve as a backup in case the first barrel fails.
Moreover, the device can rapidly fire several rounds at the same target. Every missile arrives on a distinct trajectory at the same time.
Large-caliber artillery that is towed can accomplish the same thing, but the Koalitsiya-SV can fire more shells into the air faster. This feature enables a single system to simultaneously inflict significant damage on a single target.
The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV cannon mounts two 152mm howitzer barrels in a 'over-under' configuration akin to a rifle barrel. Compared to the previous Msta-S artillery, which could only fire six to eight rounds per minute, this type has the advantage of a faster rate of fire, reaching 16 rounds per minute.
The main weapon, the turret or gun barrel, can fire a total of 70 rounds that are ready to fire and can target a 360-degree direction. Different types of ammunition, including long-range guided projectiles for increased precision, can be chosen thanks to the firing control system.
