February 14th is Valentine's Day. The day was named after Christian martyr Bishop Valentine who was executed for continuing to minister and converts to Christianity despite repeatedly being warned not to. The date February 14 was the second day in the three day ancient Roman festival called Lupercalia, a celebration of fertility and health. Along with Chaucer who helped romanticized the day with his poem "Parliament of Fowls" the day evolved over the centuries into what it is today. A few notable events occurrde on this date as well such as the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre", the "Strasbourg Massacre" and the death of Captain James Cook.
Listen to the "Illustrious Narrator" talk about Valentine's Day.
