TFL works with several muscle groups to assist in movement and stabilization of both the hip and the knee. It works with the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus to internally rotate and abduct the hip and with the gluteus maximus via the IT band to abduct the hip.
Wow, that is a lot of work for little muscle so if we start to overuse it or it starts to compensate for weaker surrounding muscles pain can occur.
In order to keep that tension at bay, you can use this stretch as part of your daily routine. If this stretch alone is not helping you can also try some of our other hip, glute and back stretches...
And in the end, if you are just not able to relieve your symptoms, that is where we come in. It is our job to assess and treat the root cause to get you back to your healthy, active life!
